Some believe the origins of lace can be traced back to ancient Egypt, others believe them to be traceable to ancient Rome. No one knows for sure, but one thing is certain, it was the 15th century renaissance that truly sparked a permanence of lace in the fashion industry. Lace nearly replaced embroidery all together because it could be removed from articles of clothing and placed on a new piece. Belgium is now the true home of lace, being the birthplace of many lace-making techniques. The lace making industry involves the craftsmanship of a mere one thousand women employees. There are four kinds of lace;
Duchess Lace, which is made on a cushion using 22 bobbins. (not manufactured anymore)
Rosepoint Lace, thought to be the most delicate, is made with a needle on a piece of tissue paper. (not manufactured anymore)
Princess Lace is used for special occasion pieces, like wedding veils. The net is made by machine with the prints sewn on afterwards with designs on them.
Renaissance Lace is manufactured at the biggest scale nowadays and is generally the strongest lace

Why do women want nightgown dresses and chemises? I believe that the nightgown craving stems from the natural desire to look and feel beautiful at all times. Why not wear a princess ballgown to bed? What’s more is that you feel the beauty internally… it rises out of you and shines around you like a sparkly tiara. There is just something special about walking into a lingerie store and seeing that gorgeous silk hanging off a fluffy satin hanger… and when you slip into it, you feel just as amazing as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. That warm and fuzzy feeling nearly mimics that of falling love… or does it just mimic? I personally fall in love with every gown I try on. If only I could buy them all… Alas, the multiple armoires of nightgown dresses only exist in my dreams. Realistically though, I think that every woman should own at least one spiffy nightgown dress. If it makes you feel good and makes you feel special, that’s enough reason for making the investment to me. I doubt many boyfriends or husbands would object either…

1907, was the year when the word brassiere was first reported in an American copy of Vogue. Most major designers of the era tried to lay claim to designing the first bra but in 1914 a woman by the name Mary Phelps-Jacobs patented the first bra and thus gives her the credit for the first bra even though it is known that other bras were around before this.
The Corset can be traced back to about 2000 BC and thru time woman used different methods to support or restrict the breasts from moving. My belief is that as time evolved so did the bra and some people can take credit for different design elements in the bra but many have played a hand in the concept and development as we know it today.

Most women who take the time to get good fitting lingerie want it to last. So here is some advise on laundering your delicates. Start with some good lingerie soap, this has natural chemicals that are soft on the fabrics and revitalize the elastics. Hand washing is highly recommended for lingerie but in these busy times we sometimes get lazy. Your bras should always be hand washed, especially if they have an under wire. Washing your bra at night then letting hang over night takes just a couple of minutes and it should be dry in the morning. As for your under wear, if you are going to use the washing machine, use the delicate cycle on a cold wash and put them in a laundry bag, forget about using the dryer unless you want to purchase new underwear every week. I will write some more on this subject in the next couple of weeks!

Why do we need more than one style of bras? Look at how many different necklines woman wear and believe it or not, every style of bra gives us a different shape, which enhances each neckline. For example: a balconet bra goes great under a sweetheart neckline; a plunge bra works with a low V neckline; a demi-cup bra gives a clean line to a square neck top; So if you are ever wondering how many bras you should have, think of 2 for each different neckline you wear… and don’t forget your basic everyday or t-shirt bra.

We all need to have a look in our lingerie drawer from time to time. At this time of the year as summer is just around the corner, we need to see what we have for traveling. Things to consider; is it light weight for packing? Do I have something that is fun and something that I can cover up in and of course do my every day staples look fresh enough to be seen by others?

Some woman will say every day, others would say never. Well a lot of it depends on the individual’s personality. How daring are you? European woman are more inclined to let a little lace show, adding a feminine touch. If you are going to pay for it, what is wrong with tastefully showing a little? I think the best way to wear a lace bra is with a woven shirt, as woven materials do not cling to the body like a knit top. Every woman should have a couple of sexy lace bras with matching bottoms in their lingerie drawer; we never know when we are going to need them.

Women play many roles in life and as we play out these roles; from young women to mothers, to grandmothers we put ourselves on the back burners looking after everybody else. We need to take the time to make ourselves feel beautiful and this starts underneath. Like most things in life we need a good foundation to grow from. Think of going to get a fitting for your lingerie as a day at the spa that lasts a lot longer. Treat yourself to a good bra and panty set; it may just add a little spice to your day.

We should place our arms though the straps, the same as we would the sleeves of a dress, them lean forward and let the girls drop into the cups making sure the band is under the breast, sliding our fingers around the band and fastening it at the back. This will ensure that we get a good fit without putting extra stress on the bra. The earlier we start doing it the right way the easier it is to do it right, like most things bad habits are hard to break.

You should replace your bra every 6 months. Most bras get worn out after 6 months and they lose their fit. In addition to the bra wearing out, is the fact that women’s bodies change all the time, due to a variety of reasons, such as losing weight, getting pregnant, giving birth, …And as mentioned in previous postings, wearing the wrong fitting bra can cause some strain on the back and shoulders, and can make the woman look less than her best. Therefore it is recommended that every women changes her bra every 6 months, and get professionally fitted once or twice a year at least.
